The House Representatives, through the “majority bloc”, has passed the 2025 Draft National Budget in the tune of US$880 million. The decision was made on Friday, December 20, 2024 during the second day sitting in the extension of the 3rd quarter following a comprehensive report from the joint committee on Ways, Means and Finance and Public Accounts and Expenditure.
In the same vein, the Liberian Senate has concurred with the House of Representatives on the passage of the 2025 National Budget in the tone of US$880 million.
It is expected that the National Legislature will submit the budget to the office of President Joseph N. Boakai, in order that it may be signed into law as the financial tool for the year 2025.
It can be recalled that the draft 2025 budget was submitted at a little over US$851 million, an increase of US$112,875,039 compared to FY2024 Approved Budget of US$738,859,834.
Over US$878 million had been earmarked in the draft budget. This included US$1.8 million for renovations of the Joint Chamber at the Capitol Building, which was severely damaged by a fire on December 18. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Following an inclusive budget debate, with lawmakers given time to speak on the country’s national development envelop, a motion was proffered by Nimba County’s electoral district #4 Representative, Ernest Manseah, for the passage of the 2025 national budget, and immediately forwarded to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.
