As Liberia celebrated Pan African Postal Union Day (PAPU) on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, the Deputy Minister for Operation, J. Mike Gunlehtuo, has recognized the efforts of his boss, Minister Cooper W. Kruah Sr., for the digital transformation of postal transactions.

Addressing a number of journalists in his office, Deputy Minister Gunlehtuo said, “Today we are proud to say that the ministry has digitized its counter service, where its activities can be automated for the purpose of ensuring easy and faster transaction, efficiency, accountability and transparency.”

Further reorganizing the efforts of his boss, he noted, “The Post is also extending its electronic services to rural post offices, beginning with Buchanan Regional Post Office, Bo-Waterside Border Post Office, Gbarnga Regional Post Office, Ganta Border Post Office and Sanniquellie Post Office.”

The Deputy Minister reminded Liberians that, over the years, PAPU has been very supportive in providing technical assistance to Liberia posts in the areas of training and providing IT equipment.

Revealing some new steps by the Kruah administration, he stated, “As we speak, the ministry is reconstructing and rehabilitating its lock boxes to address the needs of businesses and institutions to obtain or regularize their mailing addresses. In the same vein, businesses and institutions are under obligation to obtain their mailing addresses as part of the requirements to establish a business in Liberia.”

A mailing clerk at the ministry, Maudlyne A. Dennis, read the message from the Secretary General of PAPU, Sifundo Chief Moyo, stating, “The postal industry across Africa is currently seized with the digital transformation agenda that seeks to grow the postal sector and reposition it, with abundant clarity, as a key driver of inclusive socio-economic development in our countries.”

Reading his speech further, she noted, “As PAPU we already have the resolve to enter into myriad relationships with training institutions, such as the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), among others.”
