Momentary Standstill–As Gongloe Storms West Point
The densely populated Township of West Point virtually came to a momentary standstill over the weekend when the former President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) now presidential hopeful, Cllr. Tiawon S. Gongloe, stormed the community.
Cllr. Gongloe and team walked from his law firm’s office on Ashmun Street through the Waterside general market, as a mammoth crowd comprising marketers, yana boys, among others, chanted several slogans: “We want Cllr. Gongloe”, “He is a poor-man lawyer”, etc.
The learned counselor, who is referred to as a “grassrooter”, had gone to West Point apparently to test his popularity there, as 2023 draws nearer. The township is usually considered one of the strongholds for the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of President George Manneh Weah.
Speaking briefly at a well-organized program by a group of women in the West Point area, Cllr. Gongloe said Liberia needs leaders and people with integrity to lead and not those who will make the nation’s coffers to bleed, as it is being alleged. He warned against stealing public funds, greed for power, political patronage, among others.
