The Hot Pepper has gathered that the son of Judge Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay has narrowly escaped death after being shot three times by an officer of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), Aloysius Zortonie, famously known as “ERU Azonto”, in Yekepa, Nimba County.

Judge Gbeisay was the judge who ruled in the alleged missing L$16 billion case and the most recent Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Theft of Property case against J. Brownie Samukia, which brought relief to the armed men of the AFL. He is widely noted to be a “no nonsense judge” in the Judiciary.

According to report, the incident occurred on March 31, 2022 around 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. the Hot Pepper investigation gathered that Willeyon Gbeisay, son of Judge Gbeisay, was on his way back to campus after doing his assignment within a community called “Area O”, near the carpenter shop, when he encountered two of his friends who offered him a ride on a motorbike in an attempt to drop him on his campus.

Unfortunately for him, he met them with a strange ERU officer, who accused him of impersonation and loving to people’s women. When the argument intensified, the two fellows on the bike, only identified as Jamaal and J. Bond, left the scene, leaving him vulnerable to the armed ERU officer.

Giving his ordeal to authorities of the hospital, Willeyon said because of fear he pushed officer Aloysius Zortonie in his chest, in an attempt to run for safety, but was chased and shot in the left leg twice and the right leg once. He said he however managed to jump in the dark bush, bleeding profusely, in a vicinity noted to be surrounded by deadly snakes and scorpions. He said he resisted the pain for the safety of his life.

He explained that, after two to three hours, he began to grow weaker but could still hear the ERU officer along with another person, saying, “But I shot him right here, where did he go?”

Willeyon further explained that, he managed to crawl out of the darkness and reached at the door of a community dweller and shouted for help, and that was how he was rushed at the ArcelorMittal Hospital in Yekepa, where he is currently being treated.

Meanwhile, the ERU Officer, Aloysius Zortonie, who goes by the name “Royal Jesusson” on social media, officially responded on his Facebook page.

ERU Officer, Aloysius Zortonie

He wrote, “A fellow from the abc School in Yekepa, Nimba County, is saying that he’s an Immigration officer in Liberia to be identified, but I don’t know him from anywhere. He jumped on me with a serious fight and tried to disarm me when our motorbike, which I was on that morning, broke down at Area “O” Junction in Yekepa, Nimba County.

“In fighting over the gun, no one was there. It was the bike owner who was around but left us while we were seriously arguing, which led to our fight. We fought, fought and fought that night because it was late and the people were sleeping around that area. Because the fight could not end, that’s how I stopped the treat, and that’s how he received the bullet wounds.

“Now he’s telling people on social media that it’s because of woman business—it’s false and misleading information. I don’t know him, and it’s my first time seeing him. I can never and ever fight my fellow man for woman business because I have my woman and children. That fellow is just trying to spoil my good reputation that I, Officer Alloysius, built over the years.”

However, the Hot Pepper has been informed that he has reported on base and is currently under police custody. Investigation continues.
