NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah

The Advocacy for Transparent Justice for the Rule of Law in Liberia is calling on the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Cllr. Daviatta Browne-Lansannah, to recuse herself from the Chairperson position of the NEC in the midst of prosecution by the Government of Liberia (GOL) for conflict of interest as Chairperson: awarding contract to her relative without observing the code of ethics of the election law.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the group said, “We believe that the action of Cllr. Davidetta Browne Lansanah prove to the Liberian people that her ability to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in Lofa County come 2022 and the presidential and general elections in 2023 is characteristically questionable. It is our opinion that if she refuses to rescue herself while being prosecuted for crime committed as Chairperson at the commission there is a second thought that a dark cloud hangs over the transparency and accountability of the up-coming elections. Failure to adhere to our call and we will have no alternative but to carry out civil actions until she abides and rescuses herself.

“We also call on the international community not to do business with the National Elections Commission (NEC) until the indicted Chairperson, Cllr. Davidatta Brown Lansana, rescuses herself from the activities of the National Elections Commission (NEC), as a guarantee to the 2022 Lofa County by-election and the 2023 general and presidential elections.”
