President George Manneh Weah has honored a number of eminent Liberian personalities by naming the different facilities at the Invincible Sports Park after them for their contribution to sports development in the country.

On Friday, April 15, 2022 President Weah officially dedicated the Invincible Sports Park, along with a comprehensive housing project, consisting of 50 new 2-bedroom housing units, being built around the perimeter of the Sports Park.

The park consists of an official FIFA standard field, children training soccer field, children playground, youth training field, basketball courts, volleyball court, the lawn tennis court, a VIP lounge and a housing estate.

President Weah named the Official FIFA Standard Field after Allhaji G.V. Kromah, the Youth Training Field after Willis Knuckles, the Basketball Courts after Representative Solomon C. George and the VIP Lounge after Alexander Trokon Kpui.

He named the Housing Estate after Samuel Burnette, the late former President of I.E.; the Volleyball Court after Otis Nyanneh; and The Lawn Tennis Court in honor of Dr. Togba Nah Tipoteh.

According to President Weah, naming the facilities after these individuals was a mark of recognition for their numerous contributions made toward sports in Liberia in a very special way.

Reflecting on what informed his decision to transform the site into a park, President Weah reminisced driving by the area daily going to and coming from work, and wondering why the place remained in the same state after many years since his youth, with no efforts on the part of past governments to improve it, to provide people the simple open-air pleasures of recreation and relaxation.

“And so I decided that I would do something about it.  I feel a strong sense of obligation to this community because of what this place has contributed to my success in the world of soccer.  The transformation of this space into a modern sports and recreational facility for the public is not only pleasing to me, but is a realization  of my childhood dream to back to my people and my country,” President Weah stated.

The President noted that developing the park is his way  of keeping the promises made to the Liberian people that he would  improve their urban and civic spaces. He thanked those who immensely contributed to the project, including the National Port Authority, the Liberia Maritime Authority, and the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation.
