Senate Pro-Tempt In Good Standing To Contest In 2023 Election
With less than eighteen 18 months to go for the holding of national elections, there seems to be no challenger yet to the incumbent Senator in Grand Kru County.
Most of the county’s political elites are reluctant to raise their hands for the county’s senatorial seat in 2023 for fear of going against the will of the people.
Public opinion in Grand Kru centered around re-electing Senator Albert Chie in the pending election, and that anyone going against the election of the senator is likely to find himself on the wrong side of history.
Senator Chie’s approval rating for the Senate in 2023 stands at over 70%, making the university professor the most popular senatorial aspirant in Grand Kru for now.
The senator may have tested this when he toured the county recently to acquaint himself with development in the region.
There were reports of jubilant scenes in every city across Grand Kru to welcome Senator Albert Chie, with statements of support and loyalty to his leadership from key opinion leaders, the youth and women organizations.
Eye witnesses of the events in the county during the tour of the senator said programs were held in all district headquarters, creating the opportunity for Chie and delegation to meet and discuss with the local leadership and other citizens’ groups.
The senator also held closed-door meetings with citizens of Grand Kru on the sideline of his tour to discuss challenges the county is faced with.
Senator Albert Chie’s growing popularity just ahead of the election next year is a sign that residents of the county enjoys the relationship the senator has built over the years with the electorate.
“I admire him for riding in Kru canoes in order to visit residents in remote islands in the county during every visit,” a citizen told this paper in Barclayville.
Joseph Sackie said Albert Chie’s close proximity to the people long before his election in 2015 is likely to keep him in the Senate for long.
Meanwhile, Senator Albert Chie is expected to return to the capital this week well assured of victory in 2023.
