The newly inducted President of the Liberia Nursing Association (LNA), Benjamin Suamey, has told members of the LNA to allow them to have the face to talk for nurses in Liberia.

Suamey’s statement was predicated upon the fact that some members of the LNA are creating divisions among them.  The statement was contained in his official inaugural address to the body over the weekend, held at the Clar Marie Weah Event Hall, 12th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia.

The LNA newly inducted boss used the ceremony to call on the attention of the Government of Liberia (GOL) to stop deducting health workers’ salaries, terming the action as wrong on the part of national government. “Being a nurse is not a crime in Liberia,” he underscored.

At the same time, Suamey warned nurses to pay attention to the job they are called to do. He told members of the LNA that behavior matters a lot at workplaces.

He noted that the LNA constitution, under his leadership, will be reviewed to meet international standards. In the same vain, he made several appointments of various committees of the LNA, including the constitution review committee, educational program committee and nursing association student government. The LNA President spoke on issues confronting nurses, and ended on calling the members of the LNA to unite for the greater good of the association.

For his part, John Perkins, who proxy for the Senate Pro-Tempore, Albert Tugbe Chie, urged members of the LNA to work in line with the objective of the institution to improve the healthcare delivery system. Perkins said in rural Liberia healthcare delivery is deplorable due to the lack of drugs supply.

He said he wants the newly inducted leadership of the LNA to serve as a liaison between the LNA and the Government of Liberia (GOL) and to provide advocacies that will ameliorate the appalling situation confronting healthcare delivery in rural communities.

Perkins urged the leadership of the LNA to prioritize the reduction of mortality rate in the country and create a healthy society, which he said could be serve as a legacy for the newly inducted leadership.

He said, “As a member of the LNA, you must render your nursing services with utmost professional ethics.”

The guest speaker spoke on every segment of the Liberian healthcare delivery service.

The induction ceremony of the Liberia Nursing Association (LNA) program was well attended by some members of the LNA, among others.

Those inducted as officials of the LNA are Benjamin Suamey, President; Alex Gban, Vice President for Administration; Jimama Flomo, Vice President for Operation; Tammay Mulbah, General Secretary; Garmai Williams, Finacial Secretary; Patricia Toby, Treasurer; and Chairme Gray, Chaplain.
