As part of effort to improve coordination with other associations operating at the Freeport of Monrovia, the Dock Workers Union has form partnership with the National Port Truckers Association of Liberia.

The decision followed a high-level discussion between Dock Workers Union President, Moses Sheriff, and the President of the National Port Truckers Association, Abraham Kamara.

Under the agreement reached recently in Monrovia, the national association of port truckers will be recognized to operate as affiliate member of Dock Workers Union, paving the way for port truckers to enjoy a wide range of privileges and rights from the mother union during its operation at the port.

Disclosing this in an interview in Monrovia this week, the Dock Workers Union President and Secretary General, Sonzai Diahn, said the trucker association admission comes after meeting all the guidelines and criteria set for membership have been met.

The two union executives promised a closer working relationship with the national Port Trucker Association to enhance its activities, noting that as a mother union it will also provide advice and protection for affiliate members through effective dialogue.

On the issue of the disagreement between the national Port Trucker Association and the National Trucker Union, the Dock Worker Union president said he is prepared to mediate in the dispute to end the palava, but emphasized that he was disappointed over the non-compliance posture put up by NATU in resolving the matter.

Sheriff disclosed that the leadership of the National Trucker Union has refused to respond to an invitation to a roundtable discussion on the matter or even recognize the leadership of the Dock Workers Union as a legitimate host for all unions and associations operating within the parameter of all ports in the country.
