The National Elections Commission (NEC), through its Gender Section, recently completed two separate workshops in Montserrado and Bomi counties, respectively.

The Inter Party Consultative Committee Dialogue was held with representatives of political parties, COPPWIL and CSOs on the implementation of Chapter 4, Section 4.5 (B) and (C) of the 1986 New Elections Law and the VAWIE/P Protocol. Promoting Gender Equity in Elections, implementing the rule of law with promoting inclusiveness in elections and politics were also discussed.

The gender program also spoke about actions for achieving 30 percent gender quota for the 2023 general elections in Liberia.

A NEC statement issued on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 said the United Nations Development Program UNDP, Electoral Support Office in Liberia, governments of Ireland and Sweden, UN Women provided funds for the conduct of the two workshops.

Two NEC Commissioners, Josephine Kou Gaye and Barsee Leo Kpangkai addressed the workshops at different times. The two NEC commissioners promised that the Commission will continue to give equal opportunities to all Liberians to fully participate in all of the electoral processes of Liberia.
