The Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL) has welcomed the resignations of the three sanctioned officials of government and called for further investigation and prosecution of the accused officials. CENTAL said they want the officials to declare their assets as they resign.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at a press conference, the Executive Director of CENTAL, Anderson Miamen, said this is in line with part 10 of the code of conduct for public officials to declare their assets while entering government, upon being promoted and upon leaving government.

It can be recalled that on August 16, 2022 the President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah, suspended the designated government officials to enable them to face investigation, however the decision made no mention of the forum to investigate the matter.

The CENTAL boss has therefore recommended that the President establishes an independent panel/committee to investigate these troubling allegations to have these officials prosecuted. He further called on the US government and the international community to mount the needed diplomatic pressure on the Weah-led government to ensure the immediate prosecution of the sanctioned officials and all those recommended to the Ministry of Justice in the Liberia Anti-corruption Commission (LACC) investigative report.

Anderson Miamen said the LACC’s investigative report covered different corruption scandals and incidents, largely involving high-ranking officials of the CDC-led government.

The CENTAL Executive Director also called on the Liberian people to stand up and demand accountability of their leader, as this will help to give the international community the necessary motivation to continue supporting integrity building and anti-corruption efforts in the country.
