The House of Representatives Employees Association has disassociated itself from the statement made by the spokesperson of the Liberian Senate employees, Charles Brown, giving a 72-hour ultimatum to President George M. Weah to address the rice saga or receive an unspecified action by citizens. Brown, in an interview with reporters recently, said he was giving the ultimatum to the Legislature and the President as spokesperson of the legislative staff.

But in reaction to the statement, the House employees association said it is not aware of Brown’s statement being issued on behalf of employees of the Legislature. According to the House of Representatives Employees Association’s statement, Brown is the spokesperson for the Senate Staff association, and not the staff of the House of Representatives, and therefore should not indict the entire Legislature with his statement.

“We as employees of the House of Representatives described his statement as reckless and politically motivated. Brown, who is the Deputy Director at Senate Press Bureau, has transgressed his term of reference by issuing ultimatum to President of Liberia,” the statement read. The statement urged Brown to know that employees of the Legislature are policy advisors and researchers who should provide informed information to the Legislature and the public.

The statement, read by the Secretary General, Keah J. Cooper, called on employees of the House of Representatives not to take Brown’s statement seriously. The group also cautioned the public not to panic due to the statement.
