Former senatorial candidate of Nimba County during the 2020 midterm senatorial election, Taa Wongbe, says a political ticket of former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, Unity Party (UP), and Senator Jeremiah K. Koung, Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), will be a done deal for the presidency come 2023.

Appearing on a local show on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 in Monrovia, former candidate Wongbe said the selection of Senator Koung by former V.P. Boakai as his running mate will be a sure win from. He predicted that a Boakai-Koung ticket might be a one-round victory against the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government of President George M. Weah.

Wongbe further predicted that another winning ticket for the 2023 election is a Boakai-Cummings ticket. As people argue that early selection of running mate is a major problem of Ambassador Boakai, Wongbe claimed that his political analysis will only work if Boakai’s running mate’s selection is done early. He maintained that Ambassador Boakai’s election in 2017 got affected based on the timing for the selection of his running mate as well as the person whom he selected.

Giving his view on Alexander B. Cummings’ chances of winning the presidency in the ensuing election, Wongbe asserted the impossibility of Cummings topping President George Weah and V.P. Boakai. He predicted a third place for Cummings if the political variable remains the same.

Wongba agreed with Cummings’ critics who have said that CPP Standard Bearer does not have a political base as is with the CDC, UP and the MDR. He urged Cummings to drop his ego for the presidency and settle down for the vice presidential position.

According to Wongbe, if the opposition remains divided and nothing is done for them to unite, President Weah’s reelection for the second term will be a must. With unity, he claimed, the opposition can change things around against President Weah during the run-off.
