A delegation of US Military personnel from the US Army Southern European Task Force-Africa (SETAF-AF), in collaboration with the US Embassy-Liberia, Office of Security Cooperation (OSC), has completed a week-long Military-to-Military Subject Matter Exchange (SME) with the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).

The exchange started on Monday, April 24, 2023. The aims of the exchange were identifying AFL’s medical capabilities, shortfalls and desired end state; key leadership (US partners and AFL) engagement to discuss current capabilities and areas of improvement concerning medical services; assessing progress toward goals and discussing future programs; reassessing the current plan and modifying if necessary and building relations with senior AFL leadership.

The team also engaged civil and military medical staff at the 14 Military Hospital and Brigade clinic. The engagement focused on the staff’s ability to provide effective basic life support for the civilian population being served by the facility.

The Civil Military (CIMIC) professional military education training need of the AFL was also assessed, and training is expected to be conducted in May 2023.
