“Toxic, Divisive And Outright Ridiculous”; Urey Describes The Saying, “If Someone Doesn’t Support UP They Are Going Against The Country”
The former Chairperson of the JNB Tact Team, Telia Urey, has finally parted ways with the Unity Party (UP) and Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, with a clear indication that nobody’s mistakes or bad choices will be her bondage.
Urey is a member of the All Liberian Party (ALP) who contested the edgy by-election in Montserrado County’s district #15 on the Collaborating Political Party (CPP) ticket, tensely challenging the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate, Abu Bana Kamara, and used the single opportunity to bring herself to political prominence.
Since the fall of the CPP, Telia Urey has been a loyal supporter of Ambassador Boakai and the UP, heading and financially supporting the JNB think-tank.
However, since the selection of Nimba County Senator, Jeremiah K. Koung, as running mate to Ambassador Boakai, many ardent and strategic supporters of the UP have parted ways with the former ruling establishment, citing disappointment, disagreement, political differences and several other reasons for leaving.
Telia first resigned from the JNB Tact Team, and now leaving the JNB team for good. In several Facebook posts on Thursday, she harshly descended on the UP, categorically stating that she will support whomever she believes is best for Liberia, but not a team or train that has lost its direction.
“In the October elections, I will support whoever I believe is best for Liberia. I fear nobody and will not be intimidated by any group of people either. This false narrative that ‘if someone doesn’t support UP they are going against the country’ is toxic, divisive, and outright ridiculous. I advise my friends to develop a more strategic campaign plan and message if they are serious about winning this election. Parties and leaders earn trust and support, they don’t demand and feel entitled to it. We are too advanced in our thinking to subscribe to this,” Telia Urey posted.
She made her position clear: “Nobody’s mistakes or bad choices will be my bondage. I will support a team that my conscience tells me is best for Liberia in the short and medium term. Not a team or train that has lost its direction. Period.
“You all can insult, whine, or cry under my post. I will not be shaken or deterred from speaking the truth. This election is too important to us. Wake up Liberians!”
She wondered why the same UP people who are insulting Weah and CDC for violence against her in the district #15 election are the same people celebrating Prince Johnson and the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), whom she referred to as the global symbols of violence and chaos.
