The Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abraham K. Korvah, Sr., has extolled the Republic of India on the observance of the 76th Independence Day, stating that the government and people of Liberia take note of, and recognizes, India’s numerous contributions towards the restoration of peace, stability and democracy in Liberia.

Minister Korvah particularly lauded the Republic of India for participating in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Liberia, UNMIL, by deploying an All Women Police Unit of the peacekeeping force in Liberia, which helped to restore peace and stability to the country.

He made the remarks at the occasion commemorating the 76th Independence anniversary of the sisterly Republic of India on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the Monrovia City Hall.

Deputy Minister Korvah further indicated that the government and people of Liberia remain eternally grateful for India’s enormous assistance to the people of Liberia in various sectors, including, but not limited to, health, education, security and transportation.

The Deputy Foreign Minister also hailed India for the opening of its embassy near Monrovia under the leadership of President George Manneh Weah, which he underscored will further deepen the cooperation and friendship between the two countries and peoples.

Speaking on behalf of the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Deputy Minister Korvah said Liberia is committed to reopening its embassy in New Delhi, India, in the foreseeable future in order to further promote the relations between the two countries at a higher pace.

For his part, the Indian Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Pradip Kumar Yadav, also thanked the Government of Liberia (GOL) for the warm reception accorded him while on his diplomatic mission in Liberia and hailed the excellent relations and cooperation subsisting between Liberia and his country.

He disclosed that the request by Liberia to issue visas in Monrovia has been granted, and called on applicants to apply in-person or online.

The Indian ambassador then expressed confidence that the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of trade, health and education will be mutually rewarding.

“I am very happy for the Liberia and India relations because, Liberians and other residents in Liberia can now apply for visa online, which is very cheap, and the process is easier than physically coming to the embassy. I am very sure this negotiation will be able to fully cultivate our engagements in time,” H.E. Ambassador Pradip Kumar Yadav intoned.
