Govt. Makes Additional Payments To Rural Women
In continuation of its on-going efforts to improve the living condition of rural women through empowerment programs, the Liberian government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has made additional disbursements of L$20 million to five counties.
Out of the amount, Nimba County received L$9 million, Maryland, L$3 million, Grand Kru, L$2 million, River Gee, L$3 million, and Sinoe, L$3 million. The checks were presented to the five counties at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry at the EJS Ministerial Complex, Congo Town, Tuesday, September 19, 2023, and received on behalf of the beneficiaries by the Secretary General of the National Rural Women of Liberia, Josephine Greaves.
The disbursements are intended to complement the efforts of rural market women and farmers, owners and operators of small medium enterprises (SMEs) across Liberia.
The initiative targets Liberia’s 73 electoral districts where the beneficiaries, under the banner of the National Rural Women of Liberia, has structures and chapters, as well as others who are engaged in the Village Saving Loan Associations (VSLAs).
Prior to the disbursement to the five counties, payments were made to market women in Margibi County, mainly at the Kakata and Harbel General Markets.
