The Executive Director of the National Old Folk of Liberia (NOFL), Momo Allision Bainda, has warned Liberians against electoral violence, especially against older people.

Director Bainda stated that, as Liberians go to the polls a few days from now to cast their vote, people should be peaceful in the process, particularly the young generation.

The NOFL boss made the statement on Monday as Liberia joined the rest of world to celebrate International Day of Older Person in Paynesville, outskirts of Monrovia.

According to him, the younger Liberians should not engage into electoral violence against older people and their peers.

He noted that the younger Liberians have developed a habit of bullying older people in a friendly discussion in their communities.

Director Bainda noted that such habit creates confusion and violence among the inhabitants, which should be curtailed.

He asserted that the theme for this year’s celebration is “Fulfilling the Promise of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Person across Generation”, adding that the day has not been celebrated in Liberia with an official program due the crucial October 10, 2023 general and presidential elections.

He maintained that the NOFL supports the celebration of the day in Liberia, and hoped that next year the day will be celebrated in grand style in the country.

Director Bainda expressed dismay over the recent electoral violence in Lofa County, which has caused the life of certain individuals. According to him, this does not reflect any good image for Liberia abroad.

He emphasized that every Liberian should ensure peace and stability are maintained, no matter the provocation.

He explained that peaceful election will go a long way for every Liberian and the nation as whole for a better Liberia in the near future.
