Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has pledged L$1 million to the Successful Women for Madam Jewel Taylor Saving Club in Gbarga-gbokorta, Bokomu District, Gbarpolu County. Vice President Taylor, as part of her campaign tour across Gbarpolu, met the women group on Monday, November 6, 2023.

The group was established through the instrumentality of Gbarpolu’s former senatorial candidate and out-going Representative, Alfred G. Koiwood. The former Gbarpolu senatorial candidate, in collaboration with the office of the Vice President, established the women’s group in order to empower themselves through small businesses to upkeep their families.

In fulfilment of the pledge, the Vice President presented L$600,000 to the women group and promised to give the balance L$400,000 through Koiwood at a later date. The amount, according to the Vice President, is intended to increase the women’s financial strength to empower themselves in business.

The Vice President applauded the Gbarpolu County former senatorial candidate Koiwood for putting the group together in her honor as Vice President of the country. She vowed to continuously work with the women group through Koiwood so as to transform their lives through small businesses in that part of the country. According to her, business is another means of creating job for family and therefore the savings club is paramount to them. She urged Koiwood to continue his support for women empowerment, which she said is key to the growth of the nation.

The ceremony was graced by a cross-section of women from across the Bokomu District, Gbarpolu County. The Vice President was impressed with the occasion. She encouraged the women of Gbarpolu to vote President George Weah and CDC on November 14.
