“UP Stole Presidential Run-Off Election”; CDC SG Koijee Says
The Secretary General of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson T. Koijee, has maintained his accusation about the Unity Party (UP) stealing the presidential election during the just-ended November 14, 2023 presidential run-off, noting that the UP has always stolen elections in Liberia.
Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday November 22, 2023, Koijee said there were widespread irregularities during the conduct of the election, including voter intimidation, ballot stuffing and manipulation of the electoral process.
According to Koijee, his decision not to accept any role in the up-coming government is grounded in principles of democracy, integrity and transparency. He said he strongly believes that the just-ended election was an unfair contest, and that his participation in a tainted administration would compromise his ethical standards.
“We cannot participate in a government where the mandate was stolen. We will stay here with the people. We got zero intention to participate in a process that has the cloud of a stolen mandate. We will stay here and look up to the people,” Koijee stated.
The CDC Secretary General said evidence was sent to the National Elections Commission (NEC) that the election was stolen by the Unity Party; as such, he will not work with the elected government, but will rather stand with the masses.
“On the issue of the election, we want to say to you that the President has conceded, but we have clear-cut evidences that the election was stolen,” he maintained.
