The Director of the Intensive Teacher Training Institute (ITTI), J. Yohgah N. Salwah, II, has begun an advocacy to elevate the institution from C-certificate training to A- certificate training of teachers in the country, noting that doing so will go a long way in building the capacity of teachers professionally.

Salwah said the institute has the capacity to train prospective teachers for the A-certificate level, and not just for C-certificate level.

Director Salwah made the disclosure Sunday when ITTI held its 5th training cycle’s baccalaureate service at the Apostolic Faith Church, Old Zoo, Gaye Town, Old Road.

According to him, the institute has written the Ministry of Education to go through the necessary requirements to obtain the A-level certification of teacher training in the coming year.

He indicated that, since the institute was established, more than 200 teachers have been trained and given C-certificate.

Director Salwah emphasized that the teaching profession is a noble profession which the human resource capacity of any nation needs, and Liberia cannot be an exception.

Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of ITTI, Isaac A.C. Zammie Jr., said the lack of trained teachers is undermining the Liberian educational system.

Coordinator Zammie asserted that teaching without understanding of classroom management and the methodology impairs the learning process.

He noted that ITTI is helping to provide qualified and professional teachers in Liberia.

Earlier, the National Youth Director of the Apostolic Faith Church, Minister Abraham Quito Jr., underscored that teachers play a vital role in the development process of the nation’s human resource capacity.

Minister Quito stated that teachers should be committed to God in their career, especially in the classroom.

He said God has given them the grace to go through the training to become professional teachers, and warned them not to forget about God in their journey in life, noting that without God life is meaningless.
