The President-elect of the Republic of Liberia, Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai has appointed the leadership and members of the Joint Presidential Transition Team’s sub-committee on inauguration, naming veteran musician Miatta Fahnbulleh as Chairperson and former Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration, Ambassador Sylvester Grisby, Co-Chairperson.

Former Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Marjon Kamara, Olubanke King Akerele, veteran diplomat, George Wallace, the Political Leader of the African Liberation League (ALL), Sara Beysolow Nyanti, and Magdalene Dagoseh were also appointed advisors to the committee.

The Chairman of the Unity Party (UP) was appointed an ex-officio on the committee, while William Kollie is the traditional focal person, Louise Tamba heads the financial arm, Donald M. Cooper oversees accommodation and Senator Prince K. Moye serves as the Legislative Representative on the committee.

According to the release issued by the Unity Party over the weekend, the committee is charged with the responsibility, among other things, of supervising and coordinating planning and execution of the inauguration in consultation with the outgoing government; establishing subcommittees in consultation with the President-elect or his designee to effectively executive the inaugural program; working with the JPTT Secretariat (in-coming government) to develop a modest budget for the execution of the inauguration; deciding appropriate venue and a modest format for the inauguration; and coordinating with team members and the Secretariat to ensure the children and elderly are captured across the counties.

It was noted that the committee’s head, Fahnbulleh, will have the latitude to establish subcommittees in consultation with the President-elect or his designee, to enhance the success of the inauguration, as there may be addition when the President-elect or his designee deems necessary.

“Members of the JPTT Secretariat will provide technical and management support where necessary to ensure the smooth operations of the inaugural committee,” the release observed.

Meanwhile, President-elect Boakai has expressed absolute confidence in the demonstrated leadership skills, commitment and exceptional organizational capabilities of the leadership of the committee, and thanked members of the committee for their willingness to ensure a successful inauguration ceremony.
