NEC Dedicates Staff Workspace

The National Elections Commission (NEC) on Friday dedicated its first-ever Staff Workspace on the compound of the commission on 9th Street, Sinkor.

   The NEC Staff Workspace consists of 15 computers, printers, and projectors donated by the Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu. The staff workspace functions even in the absence of electricity and generator.

   Performing the dedicatory ceremony, Friday, December 29, 2023, INEC’s Chairperson, Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the NEC Staff Workspace was a demonstration of the lasting relationship between the two West African elections management bodies.

   Professor Yakubu is hopeful that the Staff Workspace will be used as an added advantage to ensure that the commission continues to conduct free, fair, and credible elections in Liberia. 

   Cutting the ribbon to the NEC Staff Workspace, the Nigerian elections management body Chairperson promised that the relationship between INEC-Nigeria and NEC-Liberia would be further strengthen through the sharing of resources.

   For her part, the Chairperson of NEC-Liberia, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, expressed gratitude on behalf members of the Board of Commissioners and the staff of NEC to Professor Mahmood Yakubu for such a historic donation, leading to the establishment of the Staff Workspace in Liberia. The NEC-Liberia boss praised her Nigerian counterpart for always coming to the calls of NEC, even in times when it seems not possible.

   The dedication program of the first-ever NEC Staff Workspace was witnessed by a number of local and international friends of the commission, including the United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia, Ambassador Christine Umutoni and the Charge D’Affairs at the Nigerian Embassy in Liberia, Manir Ibrahim.

   Professor Yakubu is accompanied to Liberia by a 3-person electoral commission delegation, to include Dr. Monday Udoh Tom, Saadatu Muazu Magaji and Omowumi Olayemi Balogun.
