The Political Leader of the United People’s Party (UPP), Dr. Da Monyson Tarr, says there is a need for the party to exhibit good governance and accountability; Cynthia Quinisier reports.

Speaking over the weekend at the UPP National Headquarters in Congo Town, Dr. Tarr said Africa’s oldest republic will not make significant impact in its development and infrastructural development stride if transparency and accountability are not in the interest of the public.

Dr. Tarr called on UPP partisans to be a good example of the party’s Founding Father and politician, Gabriel Baccus Matthews.

According to him, any nation where transparency and accountability remain elusive—such nation will not attain full development potential among the comity of nations.

The Political Leader said he wants all members of the party across the country to gather up to move the party to another level.

He said gone are the days when the party only became visible during election process, and the party’s members need to be transparent and diligent in steering its affairs.

“We call UPP members who have abandoned the party for separate reasons to see the need to join the rebranding of the party,” he stated.

According to Dr. Monyson, the UPP can claim its rightful place as the father of multiparty democracy in Liberia if all partisans can rally around the vision of the party’s founding father.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tarr has made known the UPP’s commitment to support the in-coming Unity Party (UPP) government under the leadership of Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakia, that the party may remain vocal against vices that have the proclivity to promote bad governance.

He disclosed his support for a comprehensive audit of the out-going Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government, but underscored that such process must be executed within the confines of the laws of Liberia and without any fear or favor.

“The UPP will speak against any audit process that seeks to witch-hunt individuals for political gain,” he pointed out.
