The Liberia National Secretariat of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) has congratulated the Chief Executive and Head of State, His Excellency Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, Sr., as well as Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung on the occasion of their inauguration, which was held on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Capitol.
In a release issued Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the APRM Secretariat said it sees the successful conduct of the 2023 elections and subsequent peaceful transition of power from the Weah administration to the Boakai administration as yet another milestone in the pursuit of the nation’s common aspiration for democratic governance, rule of law and the inclusive participation of Liberians in the forward march of the country.
The APRM National Secretariat is meanwhile appealing to the Unity Party government to commit itself to and sustain Liberia’s involvement with this pan-African governance framework. The Secretariat also called on the new administration to support the National Secretariat in fulfilling its mandate as it relates to administering the APRM Country Program. “The Secretariat is further calling on President Boakai, a new member of the APR Forum, and the Minister of Finance and Development Planning-designate, Boima Kamara, to prioritize Liberia’s commitment in attaining the objectives of Africa Vision 2063, and to address key challenges plaguing the National Secretariat in its quest to fulfill its national mandate,” the release stated.
The National Secretariat affirmed its commitment to the good governance initiative of the Boakai Administration, and extended compliments to the in-coming MFDP Minister who will also be the APRM’s National Focal Point.
The African Peer Review Mechanism of Liberia (APRM) is a specialized unit at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), responsible for the day-to-day operations of Liberia’s country programs, focusing on key thematic areas, including democracy and political governance, economic governance and management, corporate governance, and resilient institutions building. Liberia acceded to APRM, the AU’s governance framework, in 2011.
