Narcotic Traffickers Risk Long-Term Imprisonment; DEA Boss-Designate Warns
The Director-designate of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Col. Abraham Kromah, is warning traffickers of narcotic substances into the country to end their activities or face prolonged imprisonment under the law.
Col. Kromah said, as a signatory to international conventions banning the trafficking and consumption of drug, Liberia will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute traffickers, irrespective of their status in society
The LDEA boss-designate emphasized that it is therefore in the interest of drug dealers and members of the various syndicate links to the trade to see reason to abandon the practice and save themselves from the trouble and embarrassment that lies ahead.
Speaking to legislative reporters following President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s State-of-the-Nation Address, in which he declared drugs a national emergency, Col. Kromah maintained that the LDEA will not hesitate to expose, restrain and arrest anyone found in possession of narcotic substances.
He said the declaration mandated the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) to wage aggressive war on the banned substances and rid the country of their dangerous trade.
Col. Abraham Kromah used the occasion to call on Liberians to join the LDEA in enforcing the mandate of President Boakai and save the young generation from destruction.
He pointed out that it is disheartening to note that over fifty percent of the youth are under the influence of drugs and other harmful substances, creating uncertainty over their future.
The LDEA Chief-designate also disclosed that his agency stands ready to help government rehabilitate victims of the drug trade by introducing them to new techniques that will make life affordable following their return to society.
