National Patriotic Party Chairman, George Sylvester Mulbah, has denied media report allegedly attributing him to calling on the NPP to pull out of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) political marriage.
“As Chairman of the NPP, I do not have the power to order our party’s withdrawal from the Coalition for Democratic Change because those documents that make us part of the CDC cannot be changed by a single individual,” Atty at-Law George Mulbah has quoted as saying.
He asserted that he was misquoted by the journalist on Radio Bongese during his recent appearance on the radio in Bong County.
“This is untrue and misrepresentation of my statement on radio Bongese. I was clear that we were never a part of the Congress for Democratic Change’s planned retreat, and the general opinion is we will not attend because we were not part of the planning process and NPP can’t be a mere follower,” NPP Geroge Mulbah said.
According to him, regarding the 2029 general and presidential elections, the issue cannot be discussed now because it is too soon for determination, though people have the right to make personal announcement of their ambition.
“I also defined what Coalition means, and made it clear that we were never treated properly because no ministerial positions were given to us. As a matter of law, I alone can’t make such a decision; rather, the National Executive Committee (NEC),” he explained.
Attorney Mulbah revealed that over the last six years the Congress for the Democratic Change (CDC) treated the National Patriotic Party (NPP) as second-class partisans on the ground that decisions were made at the CDC’s headquarters and imposed on the rest of the coalition members.
He pointed out that the partisans of the NPP were never awarded ministerial positions in the CDC government, despite it being stipulated in the framework documents that brought the coalition together.
Chairman George Mulbah asserted that the NPP will not be part of the Congress for the Coalition Change (CDC) pending April retreat in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, on ground that the National Patriotic Party (NPP) was never consulted about the planned retreat.
“We will not be a part of any telephone conversation inviting us to such an important occasion as a reputable institution like the National Patriotic Party,” he affirmed.
National Patriotic Party Chairman George Sylvester Mulbah noted that the NPP is willing to remain within the coalition and the opposition once the right the thing is done to help improve the ordinary Liberian.
An Executive Committee member of the NPP, who bagged not to be named, told the Hot Pepper that such pronouncements are policy-oriented and can only be made by an individual as a consequence of a National Executive Committee directive through a two-thirds majority resolution, which must be further done on the basis of a convention resolution.
“To the best of my recollection, there has been no such discussion at any convention nor a resolution of the NEC to engender this publication,” he stated.
He called on senior partisans of the NPP to refrain from making statements that will make the NPP ugly in the eyes of the others coalition members.
