Grand Gedeh County Senator, Thomas Yaya Nimely, has warned the Unity Party (UP) government against the establishment of a war and economic crimes court in Liberia.

Senator Nimely stated that it is unfortunate for a government which came to power less than two monthsago to intend to prioritize war and economic crimes court when the Liberian people are confronted with severe hardship.

The Grand Gedeh County lawmaker made the statement Wednesday at a press conference held at his office at theCapitol Building in Monrovia.

He asserted that 90 percent of the young people are seeking an opportunity for job creation to alleviate the hardship on the population, explaining that some of them took up arms to defend themselves against the former warlord, Charles Taylor, from Danane, Ivory Coast,“when we were attacked by the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) in 2002”.

Senator Nimely underscored that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s government should focus on addressing prices of rice, gasoline, electricity and bad roads rather than thinking about war and economic crimes court.

At the same time, the Grand Gedeh County lawmaker has appealed to President Boakai to recall the nomination of Grand Gedeh County Superintendent. He noted that the people of Grand Gedeh County have rejected his nominee, the Former Representative Alex Grant.

According to him, the people of Grand Gedeh County has been protesting on the Capitol Building ground and the county since Grant’s nomination.

Senator Nimely suggested that President Boakai should listen to the people in the county and appoint Grant toanother sector of the government to ensure peace and stability in the county and country as a whole.

He explained that continued protest against the Liberian leader’s nominee to serve as superintendent does not show any sign of national reconciliation and unity among the people of Grand Gedeh County.

He stated that, as a Senator of Grand Gedeh County, he represents the people of the county, and when the people reject his nominee he also rejects him. He disclosed that Grand Gedeh County has qualified sons and daughters with B.Sc. and master’s degrees to serve in the capacity as superintendent.
