The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia has described as reckless, irresponsible and a willful attempt by Montserrado County’s district #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, to malign and defame the hard-earned reputation of the Minister of State, Sylvester Grigsby, citing bribery.

“While we encourage free speech in the Liberian society, especially our elected representatives, it is a requirement that said free speech be void of sentiments that characterizes the spread of misinformation,” the Free Thinkers said in a press release.

According to the release, “A fact-finding initiative conducted by the Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia has established that, contrary to outburst by Representative Yekeh Kolubahthat he and other legislators in the lower House were bribed US$4,500 cash coupon to remove the sitting Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, Hon. J. FonatiKoffa, from office, the allegation is farfetched and largely premised on entrenched misinformation based on the following facts to wit: that Hon. Yekeh Kolubah is part of the block that supported Hon. Richard N. Koon during the Speakership election; that President Joseph N. Boakai, being Standard Bearer of the Unity Party endorsed the bid of Hon Richard N. Koon to contest the Speakership election; that upon his election as Speaker Hon. J. FonatiKoffa committed himself to working with the Executive Branch to move the country forward with peace, development and progress; that Speaker J. Fonati Koffa has since been having a good and cordial working relationship with President Joseph N. Boakai and the Executive Branch of government; the cordiality that exists between the House of Representatives and the Executive witnessed a fruitful meeting between President Joseph N. Boakai and Speaker J. Fonati Koffa on last Friday, March 22, 2024; and that no meetings were held by the Richard N. Koon block for the removal of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa as claimed by Representative Yekeh Kolubah.

“Based on the established facts outlined above, the Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia say that Hon. Yekeh Kolubah is completely out of order and his outburst is fundamentally strayed and lacks any iota of truth telling.”

The release stated, “Gone are the days when Speakers were removed from office wantonly by schemes from the Executive Branch. Liberia’s democracy has matured overtime and the need to keep it along this path is the expressed desire of the House of Representatives and the Executive Branch of government.”
