The plenary has mandated its Committees on Gender and Judiciary to probe Criminal Court “B” over its recent not guilty verdict brought down in favor of an American Missionary, Lucas Richards, who stood trial on allegations of aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit murder against Jessica Lloyd.

The House’s decision was triggered by a communication from Bong County’s electoral district #6 Representative,Moima Briggs-Mensah, in which she told plenary that on April 17, 2024 Liberians realized the shocking truth of an averment, stating that a young Liberian lady was left vulnerable to the justice system when her alleged assassin, with all the evidence adduced, was found not guilty and acquitted by the judge of the Criminal Court“B”.

“This verdict met the appalling despair of thousands of Liberians across the country and many around the world,”she said in her communication.

“Mr. Speaker, it is the responsibility of this Legislature to conduct oversight across the entire government, and where justice is derailed or denied, we must act.

“Therefore, I request that plenary conducts an inquiry that may lead to the impeachment of the judge in question for bringing the Judiciary and the entire government into disrepute,” Representative Briggs-Mensah’s communication noted.

Meanwhile the Gender and Judiciary Committees will investigate the matter within the period of one week and report findings to plenary for action.
