–Wants Gov’t To Go Beyond Ex-Gov’t Officials For Answers

The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has welcomed the reopening of the investigation into the deaths of four Liberians, Barthan Nyeswah, former Director of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Albert Peters and Gifty Lamah, both of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), and George Fahnbutu.

According to the CDC, “While we have seen attempts over the last few years to ascribe political motives to these deaths, we are certain that no one in government had motives to harm these peaceful Liberians! Their work was helping the government, not harming it. Hon. Barthan Nyeswah’s work was adding value to the government. As Government Chief Internal Auditor, he was part of GOL team working to make the CDC government succeed.”

In a statement by the CDC, dated July 24, 2024, the party said, “Mr. Albert Peters, on the other hand, was auditing taxpayers to help the LRA collect more revenue in line with government’s domestic resource mobilization for government operations to foster the PAPD. If there was any motive, that motive would certainly be outside the government! So we support the search for the truth!

“Why would anyone in government harm a taxpayers service officer in Mrs. Gifty Lamah? She was working in the interest of the CDC government.  If there were motives to harm Gifty, that motive would be outside government.”

However, the CDC warned that limiting the search for answers on former government officials may undermine the effort and compromise the investigation.

“It is so sad that people succeeded in lying on the CDC government about harming ‘auditors’ when the government had no motive and no reason to do so.

“The CDC government propaganda and information mechanism was not robust enough, allowing the lies to be construed as truth and setting the Liberian people against the CDC government. We will go all out to debunk the lies told against the CDC,” the CDC noted.
