Amidst the series of trending national issues emanating over the past few days, including the writ of arrest issued by the Monrovia City Court on several ex-officials of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government, the controversial oration during the Independence Day celebration, as well as the somewhat unfavorable state of affairs, the former President of Liberia and Political Leader of the main opposition, CDC, Ambassador George Manneh Weah, will on today, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, speak to the nation.

Weah is expected to speak from the headquarters of the CDC at 11:00 a.m., as announced by the party yesterday.

Sources close to Weah have confided in the Hot Pepper that the former President is about to start holding the feet of the Boakai administration to the fire as it regards the state of affairs and to reclaim the main opposition in the body politics of the country, in preparation for 2029.

According to the sources, who spoke to the Hot Pepper on the basis of anonymity, Weah and the CDC are not taking the indictment against the ex-officials lightly, and may come down hard on the matter.

It can be recalled that the Monrovia City Court recently issued a writ of arrest on the former Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel Tweah, Jr., former Acting Minister of Justice, Cllr. Nyenati Tuan, former Director of the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA), Stanley S. Ford, former Comptroller of FIA, D. Moses P. Cooper, and former National Security Advisor, Jefferson Karmoh, for the alleged commission of economic sabotage, misuse of public money, property or record, theft and/or illegal disbursement and expenditure of public money, theft of property, criminal facilitation and criminal conspiracy.

The court requested the arrest of the living bodies of the accused and forthwith bring them to the Monrovia City Court to answer to the charges against them based upon the oath and complaint of the Republic of Liberia by and thru the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC).

However, it seems like this action has claimed the attention of the party, and the political leader is ready to issue a statement in this regard.

Also, the CDC recently descended on the Independence Day oration delivered by Dr. Robtel Neajai Pailey regarding her outburst on the United States of America. However, the Hot Pepper is informed that the statement was abrupt and did not meet the acquiescence of the entire executive committee of the party.

Weah is also expected to critique the Independence Day oration, but whether or not he will uphold the previous position of the CDC could not be ascertained.

He is also expected to speak on a wide range of national issues, and rally CDCians and the general public for a possible comeback of the CDC in 2029.
