–Vows To Take Measures To Protect Members And Executives
The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has accused operatives of the ruling Unity Party (UP) of brutally attacking its Montserrado County’s district #14 Coordinator, Myer Beteah. Beteah was allegedly attacked in Caldwell on Monday, August 5, 2024.
“We condemn the unwarranted attack in the strongest term, and the CDC is considering all of its options in taking measures to protect its members and executives,” the CDC observed in a statement issued by its Chairman, Augustus Janga Kowo.
Kowo claimed that the attack is a further demonstration of the increased level of violence in the country under the Unity Party government of President Joseph Boakai.
In a related development, the Secretary General of CDC, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Liberia National Police (LNP) for stationing officers around the CDC compound in Congo Town, and condemned what he described as a threat to the life of the party’s political leader, George Manneh Weah.
Koijee alleged that the timing and location of the police deployment coincided with the time that their political leader arrived at the party’s headquarters. According to him, the CDC has always been transparent about its activities, including any planned protests, and would not act in secrecy.
He claimed that the LNP presence at the CDC headquarters constituted a potential threat to Weah’s safety, and called for an explanation from the LNP authorities regarding the police deployment.
