Following months of intensive scrutiny of thousands of applicants to be recruited into the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), authorities of the LIS have concluded with the selection of the successful 500 recruits, and all is now set for the commencement of training at the LIS training academy in Foya, Lofa County.
Appearing at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, October 10, 2024, the Commissioner General of LIS, Atty. Stephen Zargo, emphasized LIS’ commitment in filling the existing gaps in the LIS after the Civil Servant Agency (CSA) announced a lay-off of over 300 personnel of the entity.
Initially, the LIS received over 9,000 applicants during the process. During the scrutiny process, thousands of applicants dropped before the medical examination, which was the final stage of the vetting process.
Over 2,000 candidates sat the medical test, with 1,985 candidates making a pass, but only 500 candidates among them could be selected by the LIS due to limited funding available at the moment.
The medical testing was conducted by the Africa Union Trading Company, a private medical company operating in Liberia.
Commissioner Zargo informed newsmen that the support for the training comes from the LIS budget, and selection of the 500 candidates was based on high points accumulated during the initial recruitment processes. “We selected the 500 candidates among the 1,985 persons because of the high points they achieved,” he stated.
Among the selected 500 candidates, 105 are females and 395 are males.
According to the LIS boss, the next phase, which is the training of the recruits, is expected to commence on October 14, 2024 at the LIS Foya Training Academy, Lofa County.
