The Bukonjadeh Group of Companies has alarmed over the danger of illicit drugs and called for a nationwide awareness campaign against drug abuse in Liberia.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Bukonjadeh Group of Companies, Elton Johns, a nationwide awareness campaign will educate and inform young Liberians about the danger of taking illicit drugs, which will go a long way in preventing people from engaging into the habit.
Johns made the assertion Wednesday in Monrovia. He said his company will embark on a major awareness campaign on drug abuse in November 2024.
He noted that adequate awareness about the effects of illicit drugs on the welfare of young people will prevent them from engaging into drug abuse.
He explained that providing the relevant information and education concerning the effects of drugs on individuals will help to change the mindset of young people about drug abuse in the country.
Johns lamented that illicit drugs are damaging the youthful population of Liberia, and it is about time that every Liberian gets involved with the fight against illicit drugs through educating their children about the danger.
According to him, an awareness campaign on illicit drugs will help to reduce the number of young Liberians getting involved with drug abuse in the nation.
He underscored the need for drug test to be introduced in schools and universities to ensure that students are free from drug abuse.
Johns stated that the awareness campaign should also be carried out in churches and morgues, noting that it will help to curb and prevent drug abuse in the society.
He maintained that government should equip the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) financially and materially to battle illicit drugs in Liberia.
He asserted that as President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has declared illicit drugs as national emergency, it should not be mere lip service, but government should infuse money to fight it.
