CSNL Welcomes Court Indictment Against Cllr. Momoh; Calls For Judge Blamo Dixon’s Recusal From The Case
The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) said they welcome the Indictment and writ of arrest issued by Criminal Court “C” against Cllr. Johnny Momoh for theft of property, burglary and criminal conspiracy based on a long-standing case filed by Marie Nellon against him.
It can be recalled that on April 8, 2023, Cllr. Momoh was arrested for the crimes of theft of property for allegedly conspiring with Johnny Yorvors, Augustine Sellay, Patricia Miatta Kamara and Moses Miller to steal cash and valuable properties in the amount of US$575,385.00 and L$80,000.00 that got allegedly missing from Marie Nellon when he threw her belongings out of the house in her absence. “As a pro-democracy group that believes in justice, we see the indictment against Cllr. Momoh and others as the beginning of deserved justice for Madam Nellon,” the Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) said in a press release.
The Civil Society Network of Liberia said they strongly believe that the indictment of theft of property, burglary and criminal conspiracy against Cllr. Momoh and others are justifiable, as his reckless and irresponsible action led to Nellon losing several of her belongings, including US$500,000 worth of jewelries, clothes and money amounting to US$75,387, 3,000 Euros and CF$5,000. “Cllr. Memo’s indictment is a timely relief to Madam Marie Nellon, who immediately took Cllr. Johnny Momoh to court for remedy in recovering her belongings and money. We also laud Criminal Court ‘C’ for the indictment against Cllr. Momoh, as investigations conducted by the Civil Society Network of Liberia established how Cllr. Momoh and co-defendant intentionally, maliciously and willfully conspired and connived with the resolved intent to burglarize and commit theft when they broke into the private home, entered and violently and rudely invaded the residence, and entered the bedroom of Madam Marie Nellon where she had all of her belongings, which includes, but not limited to, over US$500,000 worth of jewelries, clothes and money amounting to US$75,387; 3,000 Euros and CF$5,000,” CSNL stated.
“The Civil Society Network of Liberia wants to makes it unequivocally clear that Cllr. Johnny Momoh is a shameless and disgraceful person who deserves the indictment writs of arrest. His character does not reflect the law profession. Cllr. Momoh knowingly violated several sections of the statutory laws of Liberia, relating to theft of property, burglary and criminal conspiracy. It is unimaginable for a well-known lawyer in Cllr. Momoh to have caused so much psychological and emotional pain for a Liberian woman who was his serious fiancée for eight years. What is much more painful is Cllr. Momoh criminally conspired to burglarize and steal from Madam Nellon, who did so much to maintain their relationship, especially during his worst periods,” the civil society group maintained.
“Consequently, the Civil Society Network of Liberia calls for the immediate recusal of Criminal Court C Judge, Cllr. A. Blamo Dixon since his daughter is the current fiancée of Cllr. Jonny Momoh based on our investigation. This is a fundamental practice in law, relating to conflict of interest. Cllr. Dixon’s reported connection to Cllr. Momoh could prejudice the case in the case of a ruling. However, the Civil society Network of Liberia calls for a speedy and impartial trial of the case, as we are determined to closely follow the case at the court, like we have been doing since the case was filed. This Liberian lady deserves justice. Hence, we will continue to stand with Madam with continued advocacy until she gets justice.”
