The US$10,500,000 (ten million five hundred thousand United States dollars) supplementary budget recently submitted by the Executive to the House of Representatives has been passed by the plenary of the House of Representatives during its Wednesday sitting. The decision to have the financial instrument passed was based on a comprehensive report from the Joint Committee on Ways, Means and Finance and Public Accounts. The Joint Committee recommended the passage of the supplementary budget due to the highlighted priority areas in support of the Coalition for Democratic Change’s pro-poor agenda.

The supplementary budget is heavily directed toward public-sector direct investment for the RIA road expansion project, public schools renovation, streets lights extension and additional transformers procurement, public schools chairs project, hospital beds, among other things. The budget was recently submitted to the House for legislative action by President George M. Weah.

The House’s action affecting the passage of the supplementary budget took place on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 during the first special day sitting of the fourth Session of the 54th Legislature of the Honorable House of Representatives.  Wednesday’s session was largely done in executive, and later open for vote-taking purpose on the passage of the budget. Plenary immediately forwarded the supplementary budget to the Liberian Senate for its concurrence.
