The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has announced that this year’s World Press Freedom Day will be celebrated on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

In preparation for the celebration, T-shirt and cap are now available for purchase and collection at the PUL headquarters on Clay Street, Monrovia.

All journalists and PUL members are encouraged to visit the headquarters to acquire the T-shirt for US$5 or the equivalent in Liberian dollars; and cap for L$500.

According to a PUL release issued Tuesday, this year’s World Press Freedom Day focuses on the domestic theme, “Sustaining Independent Journalism and Press Freedom in the Digital Age”. A panel of experts will address this critical topic during the event.

According to the release, the day’s activities will commence with a parade featuring journalists, PUL members, and invited dignitaries, marching from the PUL’s headquarters to the Monrovia City Hall. Following the parade, an in-door program will be held at the City Hall, culminating in sporting activities at the Saye Town sports pitch.

“We strongly encourage journalists and PUL members outside Montserrado County to participate in the celebration. For those unable to attend in-person, T-shirts and caps can be purchased and collected through designated PUL representatives in each county,” the PUL release stated.
