The Liberian Senate has cited authorities of the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), and the Ministry of Public Works to appear next Tuesday before the full Plenary as a committee of a whole.
The Senate decision to cite the two institutions is triggered by a report from the committee on Public Works and Rural Development based on plenary mandate to investigate a concern by Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr., of Bomi County regarding the deplorable state of the city of Monrovia, especially the Psalm Grove Cemetery in central Monrovia.
In his communication to Plenary, Senator Snowe emphasized that the city of Monrovia does not reflect the image of Liberia in this 21st century and rallied the Senate to take decisive steps to address the situation.
The Bomi County Lawmaker pinpointed the Palm Grove Cemetery as one of the worst reflections on the city of Monrovia.
Against this backdrop, Senator Snowe prayed the wisdom of the Senate to muster the political will to take drastic action to relocate the Palm Grove Cemetery to enhance the redecorations of Liberia’s capital.
Authorities of MCC and Public works are expected to appear on Tuesday July 1, 2025 before the full Plenary of the Senate.
