The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed that on the evening of August 31, 2025, between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., an officer “recklessly” discharged a firearm at the Iron Gate checkpoint in Brewerville, resulting in the injury of a civilian.

The officer involved was identified as Sergeant Abdullaziz S. Kromah, Class 45, ID #5766, assigned to the Kpaykor Police Station, Brewerville. At the time of the incident, Sergeant Kromah was off duty.

Preliminary findings indicate that the weapon used was not his official service arm, but is registered to another officer, Inspector Monica J. Sesay, ID# 3603, from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU).

The victim, identified as Hassan Carter, was immediately transported to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center and is currently receiving medical treatment.

A LNP press release says Sergeant Kromah is in custody while a full investigation is underway.
