The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Liberty Party (LP) has suspended the leadership of the party’s National Youth Congress, headed by Othello Garpue.

According to a LP release, the decision arises from acts deemed incompatible with the norms, values and guiding principles of the party, including taking to social media platforms to launch unfounded public criticisms and attacks against members of the Executive Committee and the Political Leader.

The youth leadership’s suspension also stemmed from causing division among the youth membership of the party through the deliberate spread of lies and misinformation about party leaders, and engaging in conducts that undermine unity, discipline and respect for the party’s established structures and leadership.

The Executive Committee of the Liberty Party (LP) observed that, in view of the seriousness of these actions, they have resolved to suspend the Youth Congress leadership with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a full investigation into these matters.

According to the release, the investigation team, comprising of T. Wilson Gaye, Chairman, and members to include James Nganda, Martin Saye Kollah, Helena Massaquoi Smith and Famata Russell, will investigate these actions and appropriately advise the NEC and the Political Leader.

The NEC has meanwhile appointed Lawrence Dapeeda James as interim head of the National Youth Congress, pending the conclusion of the investigation. “Going forward, all members of the Youth Congress are strongly advised to refrain from actions that may further jeopardize the integrity and unity of the party,” the LP NEC warned.

The LP NEC emphasized that the measure is not punitive but corrective, intended to safeguard the cohesion of the Liberty Party and ensure that due process is followed.
