The Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia (FIA) has expressed dismay over the unlawful physical attacks and “intentional” vandalization of one of the agency’s vehicles.

The vehicle was transporting staff to the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) to perform their official functions in line with the mandate of the agency.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, on the Jallah Town, Capitol By-Pass, in Monrovia.

According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, “the overzealous” protesters allegedly took away valuable properties of the FIA. These included bank checks, mobile phones, and physical cash belonging to FIA’s staff who were onboard the damaged vehicle.

The FIA frowns at the unfortunate action of the protesters, noting that this action is contrary to the doctrine of mass assembly as stated in Article 17 of the Liberian Constitution.

“The Agency appreciates the timely intervention of the Liberia National Police (LNP) that arrested the situation. The LNP has identified mitigating measures to hold perpetrators who allegedly vandalized the FIA’s assigned vehicle accountable based on facts and the Liberian law,” a press release from the FIA stated.

“Meanwhile, the Agency pleads with Liberians and other nationals from all walks of life to kindly provide useful information to the Liberia National Police. This will enable the LNP to find a solution to the vandalization incident based on evidence.”
