The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Justice, the Director of the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection to appear before the joint committees on Gender, Health, Judiciary, and National Security.
The officials are expected to provide a comprehensive status report on a deeply troubling case involving a 15-year-old boy who was allegedly sodomized by a former NSA agent and two other suspects. The House has demanded updates on the whereabouts of the alleged perpetrators and the actions taken to ensure that justice is delivered transparently and without delay.
Plenary’s decision was triggered by a communication from Ernest Manseah Sr., Representative of Nimba County’s electoral district #4, who called the attention of the august body to the matter.
According to the lawmaker, the case has sparked sustained public outrage for more than two months, with growing concern among citizens and civil society organizations over the slow pace of justice and the perceived lack of institutional response. The victim’s mother has repeatedly raised alarms, alleging neglect by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and failure by the Ministry of Justice to ensure a speedy trial and consistent follow-up.
Representative Manseah further informed plenary that the child remains in critical condition at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK). He disclosed that the hospital has reportedly advised the family to take the child home due to unpaid medical bills, despite the child’s life-threatening condition.
In view of these developments, plenary voted to mandate the joint committees to thoroughly investigate the matter and report back to plenary within one week. The House emphasized that the safety of children, accountability of state institutions, and the swift administration of justice remain non-negotiable priorities.
The House of Representatives has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is served, the rights of the child are protected, and that all responsible institutions act decisively in the interest of the Liberian people.
