ArcelorMittal Liberia Presents US$35,000 To County Meet’s Teams

The ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) on Tuesday presented a check of US$35,000 to the 15 political sub-divisions of Liberia as support for their participation in the National County Meet.

   According to the Head of Sustainability and External Relations at the ArcelorMittal Liberia, Marcus Wleh, US$85,000 were targeted to support the county meet, and US$50,000 was presented earlier to the various counties during the tournament.

    Wleh noted that the presentation of the balance check of US$35,000 to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and distributed to various counties steering committee chairs. He stated that this is one of the means through which ArcelorMittal Liberia can promote and support sporting activities in the country.

   Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Henry B. Yonton, said the Ministry of Youth and Sports and ArcelorMittal Liberia decided to provide certain amount of money to help the various counties in the preparation of their teams.

   Minister Yonton stated that the teams’ officials have exercised restraint until the checks are made available for each county.

   The checks received were in different amounts: Grand Cape Mount County received US$3,000, River Gee County received US$2,000, Maryland County received US$1,500, Margibi County received US$3,000, Grand Bassa County received US$3,000, Montserrado County received US$2,000, Rivercess County received US$1,500, Grand Kru County received US$5,250, Grand Gedeh County received US$1,500, Bomi County received US$1,500, Nimba County received US$5,250, Sinoe County received US$1,500, Lofa County received US$1,500, Bong County received US$2,000, and Barpolu County received US$1,500.

   Also speaking on behalf of the Association Steering Committee of the Counties at the presentation ceremony held the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex, Addo Kanneh expressed thanks and appreciation to ArcelorMittal Liberia for providing the amounts to help the county teams participate in the national meet this year.

   Kanneh said the government’s promise of support to the various teams are yet to be realized, and appealed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure that the money is made available because they are indebted to vendors.

   For his part, Development Officer of Grand Kru County, Joe M. Sekpeh, on behalf of the Superintendent Council expressed thanks to ArcelorMittal Liberia for supporting the county meet, and reiterated the call for government to give the second amount of money for the various teams to clear their debts.
