The Government of the People’s Republic of China has awarded two scholarships to the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), providing an opportunity for two Liberians to pursue advanced maritime studies at Dalian Maritime University in China.

According to a LiMA press release, the scholarships form part of China’s global initiative to attract and develop outstanding talents while promoting international cooperation in education and technical expertise.

Speaking about the scholarships, the Commissioner/CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., described the scholarships as a significant milestone in the authority’s on-going efforts to strengthen human resource capacity within Liberia’s maritime sector.

“This opportunity comes at a critical time as we intensify our focus on capacity building as a key pillar of institutional development. These scholarships will help equip young Liberians with the technical expertise and global exposure needed to advance our maritime sector,” Cllr. Lighe said.

He further emphasized that investing in human capital remains central to maintaining Liberia’s position as a leading maritime nation.

“We are committed to developing a highly skilled workforce that can effectively manage and sustain Liberia’s maritime program. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for this continued partnership and support,” he added.

The scholarship recipients will study at Dalian Maritime University, one of the world’s premier maritime institutions known for excellence in maritime education, research, and training.
