The Commissioner/CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr., on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, accompanied the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy near Monrovia, Joseph Zadrozny, on an acquaintance visit to the Liberia Maritime Training Institute (LMTI).

According to a press release, the visit provided an opportunity for the U.S. diplomat to gain firsthand insight into the operations and training programs of the institute, which plays a critical role in developing Liberia’s maritime workforce.

In brief remarks, Commissioner Lighe highlighted LMTI’s contribution to producing highly skilled professionals who are competitive in the global maritime industry. He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to expanding access to maritime education, particularly for young Liberians, noting that the goal is not only to provide training but to create sustainable career pathways that transform lives and strengthen communities.

For his part, Zadrozny expressed admiration for the institute’s progress and the level of discipline demonstrated by the cadets. He encouraged the students to remain resilient and focused as they pursue careers that will contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Liberia Maritime Training Institute remains a key pillar in advancing Liberia’s maritime sector through capacity building and human resource development.

A senior official of the Liberia International Shipping and Corporate Registry (LISCR), Elain Cohen, informed the visiting Charge d’Affaires that LISCR has been part of Liberia’s development story for decades, and has always been committed to the development of Liberian youth and their career advancement. “We were charged with the redevelopment of LMTI, and in partnership with LiMA we have transformed it into a center of excellence that provides career success to Liberian professionals,” Cohen observed.
