ArcelorMittal Liberia has certificated 129 supervisors and shopfloor employees following the successful completion of its 3Ds and 4Ds Shopfloor Enhancement and Management training programs in Buchanan and Yekepa. The milestone reinforces the company’s on-going commitment to workforce development and operational excellence.
In Buchanan, 68 employees—34 supervisors and 34 shopfloor workers—completed the program earlier this year. The certification ceremony brought together participants from multiple departments across the company’s operations.
In Yekepa, an additional 61 employees were certificated on April 24, 2026, marking another important phase in the company’s leadership development efforts.
The programs were developed by the Human Resources and Organizational Development Department and delivered in partnership with Lantern Training, with support from the Mobile Equipment Training unit of the AML Training Academy in Yekepa.
The 4Ds program focuses on equipping supervisors and middle-level managers with the leadership tools, mindset, and confidence required to effectively manage teams in a demanding mining environment. Meanwhile, the 3Ds program targets shopfloor employees, addressing gaps in decision-making, accountability, and operational leadership.
Speaking during the Buchanan ceremony, Chief Technical Officer for Rail, Luiz Henrique Ferreira de Oliveira, emphasized the importance of the training. He noted that participants are now better positioned to contribute meaningfully to productivity and overall performance across operations.
Training Process and Compliance Lead, Ruth Negash, commended the collaboration between AML and Lantern Training, highlighting continuous learning as a key driver of business improvement and operational standards.
HR Business Partner for Buchanan, Bendu Parker Weeks-Lewis, encouraged participants to apply their knowledge and take ownership of change within the organization.
“Be the one voice that can change ArcelorMittal,” she urged.
In Yekepa, facilitator Tony Wachira emphasized that this phase of the program placed strong focus on communication. He explained that prior assessments revealed gaps between workers and supervisors, underscoring the need to strengthen communication as a driver of productivity and efficiency.
The Yekepa session was attended by departmental heads, including John Murray and Ruth Negash, who joined others in encouraging participants to translate learning into action.
“Go and practice what you learned and don’t sit on it,” was the shared message.
Participants from both Buchanan and Yekepa expressed appreciation for the training, sharing how it transformed their mindset, improved teamwork, and enhanced productivity. Many committed to adopting stronger leadership practices and moving away from habits that limit performance.
Learning and Development Superintendent for Yekepa, Pobuwolo Ab Towaye, noted that previous participants are already showing improvement—demonstrating stronger leadership, better teamwork, and more effective execution across the business.
A new batch of employees is expected to enroll in the next training cohorts beginning in June 2026.
The 3Ds and 4Ds programs are built around key principles such as delivering value, driving results, developing people, and ensuring safety and compliance. These pillars align with ArcelorMittal Liberia’s commitment to building a skilled and empowered Liberian workforce.
The initiative forms part of the company’s broader strategy to invest in human capital while strengthening leadership and operational excellence across its mining operations.
