The Deputy Director General for Operations of the General Services Agency (GSA), Robert Wilson, has issued a strong warning to private vehicle owners who are currently using government license plates without authorization.
Speaking during the Ministry of Information regular press briefing on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Robert Wilson said the up-coming operation will take serious action against anyone found in the act, emphasizing that the update is to inform the public that there will be a formal crackdown to recover all these plates and ensure they are returned to GSA.
According to him, government plates are strictly reserved for official state vehicles, and not for private individuals currently in possession of these plates. He called on private users to surrender the plates to the GSA to avoid public embarrassment.
He said the unauthorized use of these plates is a violation of government protocol.
Wilson noted that a specific exception exists for certain government officials who have been granted the privilege of using such plates on their private vehicles for official business.
He assured the public that the GSA has the means to identify and distinguish these authorized officials from individuals who are misusing the plates for their personal use.
He further said officials using the government plates on private vehicles and have already received their officially assigned government vehicles are now expected to return any extra plate previously issued to them by GSA.
“Any private vehicle caught with unauthorized government plates will be in serious problem. The vehicle will be transported to a designated government site and the owner will be required to pay official fees to the government before their vehicle is released to them.
He emphasized that this practice deprives the state of much-needed revenue typically generated through standard private vehicle registration process. He stated that this enforcement phase is expected to reach across the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of government.
Wilson indicated that the GSA is currently coordinating with the Judiciary to ensure there is a full understanding of the mandate before enforcement begins within that branch. He said the agency encourages all unauthorized users to comply voluntarily before street-level operations commence any time soon.
Wilson has warned individuals illegally possessing government license plates to immediately surrender them, maintaining that violators will face serious consequences as authorities intensify efforts to stop the unauthorized use of government plates.
