The Founder and Executive Director of HOPE Restored Foundation International, Ambassador Maxson S. Kpakio, is appealing to the government and its international partners, particularly the United States of America and the United Kingdom, to increase support for the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA).
Addressing the media over the weekend at his residence in Paynesville, Ambassador Kpakio, who is a lead campaigner against substance abuse in the country and member of the Control Drugs and Substances Board of the LDEA, praised the LDEA for their relentless efforts and courage in fighting drug trafficking despite the logistical challenges facing the institution.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Kpakio, who declared war against shisha, kush and Tramadol in 2022, has expressed satisfaction in the investigative process relative to the US$19 million drug case. He admonished citizens to support the process by providing information that could be of benefit to the investigation instead of making contribution that could undermined the process.
“It was better that the interception was done on our soil and not for it to have left Liberia and then discovered in another country,” he lamented. He said if the drugs had landed in another country from Liberia, the damage would have been a lot more on the nation.
In another development, the rights activist, humanitarian and long-time campaigner for the establishment of a war and economic crimes court for Liberia is commending President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for mustering the courage in exercising political will in supporting the quest for justice and accountability in Liberia by supporting the establishment of a war and economic crimes court for Liberia.
He thanked the Executive Director, Cllr. Dr. Jallah A. Barbu, and his team for the hard work and sacrifices thus far. He said the recent completion and submission of the bill for the creation of the National Anti-Corruption Court and the bill for the creation of a war crimes court to the President is a clear indication that his office is serious for paving the way for justice in Liberia.
Ambassador Maxson Kpakio is however appealing to the lawmakers to see reasons to swiftly act in passing the two bills. He emphasized that the swift passage of the two bills would be the best Independence Day gift given to the people of Liberia.
