Members of the House of Representatives

The plenary of the House of Representatives has cited Public Works Minister, Mabutu V. Nypan, to appear before it on Tuesday to inform the august body about an effective plan in tackling the deplorable road condition between Nimba and Grand Gedeh counties during this rainy season period.

The House’s plenary reached the decision to have the Public Works Minister invited in session on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, during regular session. The action was taken based on a communication written by Nimba County’s district #5 Representative, Samuel G. Kogar. Representative Kogar’s communication was co-signed by members of the Nimba and Grand Gedeh counties legislative caucuses due to the gravity of the situation.

The Nimba lawmaker told his colleagues that the road linking Nimba and Grand Gedeh and the entire southeastern region is deplorable, thus making it difficult for commercial vehicles to commute marketers from one place to another. According to Representative Kogar, the current condition of the road is causing economic hardship for citizens living in that part of the country.

“If nothing is done immediately to maintain the road,” Representative Kogar emphasized, “it will be very difficult for commercial and non-commercial vehicles to ply the road during this rainy season.” He told his colleagues that the request to have the minister invited is due to the fact that a budgetary allocation was made for the rehabilitation of the Ganta-Zwedru Highway.

Kogar said there was a need to invite the minister to answer why the road is still deplorable, with all the budget allotments. The Nimba lawmaker disclosed that the people living in the southeast region may be cut off totally during this rainy season if nothing is done now to remedy the situation.

The communication from Representative Kogar was overwhelmingly welcomed by his colleagues; they commended him for raising the issue. Montserrado County’s district #16 Representative, Dixon Sebo, made a motion following plenary’s debate to have the minister invited on next Tuesday.
